Microsoft to announce the release of Popfly private beta today. Popfly is a web based software application to create mashups, widgets and other applications, Popfly is built on Microsoft Silverlight.

What is Popfly

• Popfly Creator is a set of online visual tools for building Web pages and mashups.
• Popfly Space is an online community of creators where you can host, share, rate, comment and even remix creations from other Popfly users.

Mashups can created using Blocks, Blocks enable users to do things like get their photos from Live Spaces or Flickr and visually display them using Silverlight blocks like a slideshow or an interactive photo carousel, all without writing code. Once created the blocks can be reused, with the interactive design surface users can drag and drop blocks and connect them together to build applications.

Inbuilt help system is available to create mashups. Advanced users can edit the html code generated to further customize the applications.
