Mahalo is a new search engine launched yesterday at allthingsD conference. Mahalo is a human powered search engine meaning humans organize the results displayed for search queries. Its staff called “Guides” organize search results for search terms filtering out spam pages and pages not interesting to them.

Mahalo’s search results are displayed as categories, for a XBOX 360 search it first displays Top7, news, reviews, retailers etc in a directory fashion. It appears to me as a small wiki organized specifically for few terms.

You can suggest terms to be included in search and also links to existing search terms. They plan to include 10000 terms by the end of the year and 25000 terms by the end of 2008, in this pace when they will be able to finish a usable search engine.

Its nice effort by them to serve useful pages to the users but i wonder how they will update the search pages with the current information. [Via]
