Spotplex: News Ranking Site With a Difference

Published on June 25, 2007   Filed Under Web 2.0

spotplexSpotplex is a news ranking site like [tag]Digg[/tag], but it is different from Digg. The site is in beta for quite some time and launched public today.

.. you can find what is the hot news today, this week, or this month in real time at Spotplex. This is not a list of articles people recommended or voted for, but a list of articles read most in a given timeframe.

Spotplex ranks the stories like Digg, but unlike digg stories are not submitted and rated by the community, rather stories are promoted to the front page based on the number of page views they receive. This is a good feature and users can not gamble the site to get the stories to front page.

How it works:

You need to submit your blog to spotplex, it gives you a widget code to place it on your site, once you place that code it starts tracking your stories. Your blog stories are automatically indexed by Spotplex and based on the traffic your post page receives, your articles are promoted to the site front page.

The main drawback of the system is that only top bloggers can hit the front page. Since it promotes the stories based on the number of hits your story receives, blogs like TechCrunch, Mashable will always be on top and small bloggers will never have a chance to hit the front page and receive traffic from the site.

  1. Cool idea. Probably much more accurate then Digg too, due to many people still not digging regularly.

It becomes one more site for traffic if it gets popular like digg, otherwise everybody forgets this

  3. First of all I would like to say Excellent Blog plus excellent blog design with a very neat and classy logo.

Coming over to SpotPlex well its truly my love. I have over 150 articles submitted there and it really gives some cool stats.
