Looks pretty good. But the images should be related, otherwise its of no use.

Sure it may increase the readership

Image version looks pretty good, but i would prefer standard version. In image version you can not guess what news is associated with the image unless you hover it to each and every image, in standard version with a glance you can decide what you are going to read and what not, otherwise its a nice feature.
