Digg founder Kevin Rose announced today about his new startup on his blog. Pownce is a kind of social network site where you can send stuff to your friends. Currently the site is in private beta, if you are interested you can request an invitation from the home page.
What is Pownce

Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You’ll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast.Right now, there are four basic things you can send: messages, links, files, and events.
You might send an event out to a dozen of your friends letting them know you’re hosting a party this Friday. They could easily get the event details you entered, respond with questions or comments and then quickly rsvp.
There is a desktop application for windows and Mac for using pownce based on Adobe AIR.
By looking at the features i don’t think that it is going to be a killer service like Digg, because all of the above mentioned things can be done with an email. Let use see what it brings when it launches for public.

Well, it depends on the buzz and the usability of the service. Kevin’s name will certainly give it some hype and so no wonder if it gets popular
