rediff ishare logoRediff launched a social media sharing network named iShare. You can share videos, music and photos using the network.

If you are a rediff user you can login with your rediff ID and start using the site. To upload files you need to download a desktop client and install to your system, this looks something strange for me. Considering the internet speed in India it may be good idea to have desktop client to upload videos but for photos and music they would have given the web based uploader. I always fear to install rediff’s software, if you have ever installed rediff messenger you know what i am talking.

One can upload 5 files at a time using the uploader with a max file size of 50MB for videos, 10MB for Music. Supported video formats include avi, wmv, mpg, 3gp, 3gpp, mp4, divx, dat, dv, mov, qt, and asf.

Design wise the site sucks, the colors are annoying, the player interface would have been better. Photos are visible as large thumbnails and there is no full size view or slideshow features.

iShare can dominate the video sharing network in India given the rediff’s popularity and user base. Other video sharing networks operating in India doesn’t have a solid user base and more importantly they are attracting the wrong crowd and content in the name of user generated content.

Currently i could see lot of bollywood stuff and copyrighted music, that is going to create problem for rediff in the long run if they don’t tackle this issue.
