Thanks to YoutubeDesktop team for allowing me to see their rich web 2.0 application. Youtube desktop has a simple to use interface which is better than any other video watching application. It is a web based application and mimics a desktop application but nothing to download to watch the videos

Youtube desktop is a dynamic web application with rich user interface, it will give you a unique experience of watching [tag]Youtube[/tag] videos. With this app It is possible to drag and drop, minimize, watch multiple videos like any other desktop application.

Important features include:

• Interface, designed to be used just like every other desktop application
• Managing Playlist – create and save any video to watch later or share them with friends!
• Watching multiple videos at the same time
• Download Videos as avi, mp4 (ipod), mov, 3gp (mobile), wmv, flv, exe (built in standalone player) – all converted on the fly.
• Drag and Drop interaction – Allows you to drag videos around to create a new player or playlist.
• Change themes – set the way the site looks according to your mood
• Share videos with friends – send url’s and recommend videos to friends through e-mail
• View your recently played videos.

You can search videos, create playlists and download the videos as avi, mp4 (ipod), mov, 3gp, wmv, flv, exe. Videos are converted on the fly and downloaded to your desktop. This is best for users who watch lot of youtube videos because it provides a better interface and some nice features which are missing in youtube. Currently it is in private beta and you need an invitation to try the application.

Youtube may not agree with third party sites providing the download feature to users and using its name.
