Instantbird: IM client based on Mozilla

Florian Quèze and Quentin Castier Mozilla released an Instant Messenger client called Instantbird. It is based on mozilla rendering engine and libpurple code library what pidgin uses for connecting to different networks.

Instant bird is still in early beta, the version 0.1 can be downloaded from the site for testing. You don’t have to install the client to use it. According to the instant bird homepage you can connect to AOL, Yahoo, MSN, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, QQ and XMPP (GTalk). This is an early version and don’t expect any fancy things. It works well when you connect to an IM service. Before it can be adapted widely it has long way to go.

It comes for Linux, Windows and Mac, but Downloadsquad points out that compiling it from source in Ubuntu is pain and took around 2 hours. Like other mozilla products it can be extended with plugins.

I’m fairly certain that Mozilla didn’t actually make this, but that it is from Mozilla code (much like Songbird).

  5. Hi Ram, I sent you another invite. This the message I received: “We will send an invitation to ram@xxxxxxxxx.com in our next round of invitations to the site.” I guess it’s not an automatic invite. Sorry it took so long. Please let me know if you need invites to other services listed on http://www.IslamCrunch.com
