Search for text in Youtube Videos

Now it is possible to search for text with in Youtube videos using keywords. Google released a Gadget with some political videos that allows you to search for text.

When you search with keywords results will appear below, you can click on videos to see the results. Also in the video progress bar you will see yellow markers where your keywords appear in speech. Hovering the yellow marker shows the text in a bubble. This is quite useful feature it they roll out to all youtube videos. As Google Blogoscoped notes, it is useful to display related videos on text content, evn if that content is not available in the video’s text, description or tags.

The speech to text recognition is a difficult task and Google points out that this may not be accurate at all times, but nevertheless it is an interesting feature.

While some of the transcript snippets you see may not be 100% accurate, we hope that you’ll find the product useful for most purposes. Speech recognition is a difficult problem that hasn’t yet been completely solved, but we’re constantly working to refine our algorithms and improve the accuracy and relevance of these transcribed results.
