Twitter search is powerful and real time for tracking the any topic, but it can’t track the URLs posted by users. The links posted are automatically converted to short URLs using various services like tinyurl, bit.ly and others. Backtweets tracks these short URLs, it is quite useful for tracking who is sharing your website or blog links on twitter.

Backtweets is a product of Backtype, a service that tracks the conversations on the web. Since backtweets searches short urls you won’t miss out mentions of your blog or favorite site, it also provides RSS feeds for your queries so that you can monitor URLs comfortably. You can see the results of of my blog Technology Bites. Backtweets shows the URLs as shortened links in original form but hovering the mouse will show the real URL in the status bar. It also provides a search plugin to add it to your browser search engines.
