Samsung has launched a “Music Hub” service today, that is some what similar to iTunes and other services like Spotify. Music Hub launched in Europe today, it is currently available to Samsung Galaxy S III users. The service will have both free and premium plans for its users.
Music Hub marks the entry of Samsung in to content distribution, it is all in one mobile music service for Samsung smartphone users. Although launched only for Galaxy S III users in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and UK, it will eventually be launched on other devices like Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy S II.
The technology behind the Music Hub comes from mSpot, a company Samsung acquired recently.
Music Hub will have access to 19 million tracks catalog provided by 7digital. Users can access these tracks on the go. With the cloud storage integration users can match their home collection of music with the Music Hub catalog, similar to iTunes match service. Unmatched songs will be stored in a cloud locker that gives 100GB of storage.
With free plan users can access 19 million tracks, and listen to 30 seconds previews of tracks before purchasing the track. The purchased music will be stored in a cloud locker and will be accessible through their devices. Users can also store them on their devices for offline access.
With the premium model (€/£9.99 per month) users can have unlimited access to entire music collection, unlimited streaming from the millions of songs in the Music Hub and can discover new songs with radio stations based on artists. Users can create personalized radio stations or browse through the recommended stations.
Samsung also plans to release the app for other mobile OS like iOS, but we have to see how far this effort goes, whether Apple will approve this app ever is the big question. Another interesting feature of the app is it auto-syncs with your iTunes catalogue and automatically adds that music collection to your cloud locker.
In addition to the mobile app, users can access their music collection on desktops through web player available at www.musichub.com. Samsung Galaxy S III users have to register first with a Samsung account to get started.
