Google Earth Meets the Browser

Today Google announced a browser plugin for Google Earth at I/O Conference “which brings the power of Google Earth to the web”. Till now there is no way to build web applications using Google Earth, but now with the browser plugin and API we may see rush of web mashups built on top of Google Earth.

Driven by an extensive JavaScript API, you can control the camera; create lines, markers, and polygons; import 3D models from the web and overlay them anywhere on the planet. In fact, you can even overlay your content over different planets, stars, and galaxies by toggling Sky mode, letting you build 3D Google Sky mashups.

If you have already build something cool with Maps API you can 3D enable it now using a single line of javascript code.

Google Earth Browser Plugin can be downloaded from here. The plugin is compatible with Firefox 2.x, IE6 and IE7 on Windows
