Sony rolls out Android ICS update for Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Sola

Sony is rolling out Android 4.0 ICS updates for its Xperia devices, the list of devices that are getting ICS treatment this time include Xperia Go, Xperia U and Xperia Sola. Recently Sony announced ICS update for Sony Tablet S. The roll our will continue for the next few weeks globally and includes other updates like new media applications.

According to the Sony Mobile Product blog the update includes some new features and functionality. The updates include rebranded WALKMAN media player, Album and movies. The update also increases the standby time of the devices by upto four times with Extended standby mode. A recent apps button is included for a clear view of your applications. Other features include lock screen improvements, resizable widgets for improved personalization, and improved control of your mobile data consumption.

For Xperia Sola the update brings a cool new feature called “Glove Mode”, that allows users to use Xperia Sola in cold while wearing gloves. According to Sony this is the extension to the “floating touch” technology that was introduced with Xperia Sola. Glove mode is enabled by default in Xperia Sola, to enter this mode you have to unlock the phone while wearing a glove. Floating touch will be disabled and you enter glove mode. To enter in to normal mode unlock the phone with your finger touching the screen.


Sony also rolled out ICS update for Sony Tablet S users, so that they don’t feel left behind, as Sony announced Xperia Tablet S at IFA 2012 with ICS onboard. Sony Tablet S ICS update brings some new features. The most interesting feature is Guest mode, which allows others to use the tablet with out messing with the owners private files and settings. It also includes media application updates, Walkman, Album and Movies. A new macro functionality is also been added to the IR remote control app.

To get the ICS update you need to connect your Xperia device to PC or Mac as it is not an over the air update. The roll out depends on market and carrier according to Sony.
