Google Search is Broken: Thinks whole web is malware infected

Google search is broken, whatever you search in Google it is showing malware warning. Even Google.com search is showing “This site may harm your computer” warning. Google is showing malware warnings for quite some time in search results if the site is infected or hosts potentially dangerous scripts, i think now this has been broken and is showing each and every site as malware infected site.

If you click on these results it will lead to a warning page, which gives an option to check why it is flagged but that link is broken. If you go to the webmasters tools page you will see the message which reads

This site may be distributing malware. Google users will see a warning page when they attempt to visit pages within this site. You can visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page for your site for detailed information about the problems we found.

Update: Looks like the problem has been rectified and now the search results are normal.

Update: Google blog has more detials

We maintain a list of such sites through both manual and automated methods. We work with a non-profit called StopBadware.org to come up with criteria for maintaining this list, and to provide simple processes for webmasters to remove their site from the list.

We periodically update that list and released one such update to the site this morning. Unfortunately (and here’s the human error), the URL of ‘/’ was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and ‘/’ expands to all URLs. Fortunately, our on-call site reliability team found the problem quickly and reverted the file.
