Jelly Bean now on 45% of Android devices

Google has released the latest Android platform statistics for the month of August to September. According to the developer dashboard a little less than half of the Android devices in the wild are now running a flavor of Jelly Bean. 45.1% of devices are running on Android 4.1x and 4.2.x versions, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean version numbers are not included here as devices running the latest Android are rear except Google Nexus devices. But it will come with new devices like Galaxy Note 3.

Android 2.2 Froyo is at the end of its life, hovering at 2.4% of the share. Both Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich are loosing the market share in the hands of Jelly Bean, well that is a good thing atleast some of the devices are getting updates. Gingerbread share is at 30.7%, once Gingerbread ruled the roost. Ice Cream Sandwich share is at 21.7%.

Last month stats put Jelly Bean at 40.5%, this month it jumped around 5 points. Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread were at 22.5% and 33.1% last month.

Google already announced Android 4.4 which is called KitKat and revealed that Android activations passed 1 billion mark. The exact release date for Android KitKat  is not yet known. Samsung will update their S3 and S4 devices to Android 4.3 next month according to reports.
