Microsoft brings Xbox Music to Android and iOS devices

Microsoft has released Xbox Music apps for Android and iOS devices in a latest push. Microsoft has rebranded the Zune Music Pass to Xbox Music some time back, but never really pushed it to users. The latest push comes before the Apple’s release of competing music service iTunes Radio.

Xbox Music is also available on the web now, Microsoft is bringing this service beyond Windows 8 systems and is available to everyone in supported countries. Microsoft is transforming itself as a devices and services company, with the Nokia acquisition the devices strategy is working and with the launch of these kind of services it becomes a services company. Xbox Music will compete with several others like Pandora, Spotify, iTunes etc.

Xbox Music is available for both Android and iOS devices. The apps are already live on Google Play Store and iTunes appstore. The apps work if you have an active Xbox Music Pass subscription which goes for $10/ month or $100/ year. Xbox Music is currently supported in 22 countries, the apps will work in these countries only. You can access Xbox on the web here, it also works in those countries only.

Xbox App features:

  • Stream ad-free music from a catalog of tens of millions of songs
  • Add songs, albums, and playlists to your Xbox Music collection and access them from other device
  • Create playlists that sync across your phone, Xbox 360, PC, tablet, and the web
  • Listen to music while using your Android phone
  • Enjoy a rich visual experience for searching, viewing, and playing back music
