Sony to launch dual UsB flash drive for Android phones and tablets

Sony announced a new flash drive that comes with dual connectors for desktops as well as for mobile devices. The 2-in-1 device comes with a USB 2.0 connector and a micro USB connector. The micro USB connector can be used to connect to Android devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and up.

Sony says the new flash drives add to the consumers who want an easy and quick way to backup their files including photos and videos. The advantage of these UDB drives is that they will allow users to take backups with out using cables or Wi-Fi. These work with Android’s On-The-Go (OTG) connectivity which is standard in phones running Android 4.0.3 and up, OTG allows smartphones act as hosts when connected to other USB peripherals. You don’t need drivers for connecting these flash drives, but Sony is also offering a File Manager companion app with these devices.

These USB drives come with a normal USB 2.0 connector that can be used on Windows and Mac operating systems, a micro USB connector on the other end that can be connected to Android phones and tablets.

These compact devices come in 8, 16 and 32GB capacities are priced at $19.99 (Rs. 1240), $29.99 (Rs. 1900) and $62.99 (Rs. 3900) respectively. These will be available in three color caps. According to Sony these USB flash drives will be available from January 2014 onwards.
