Make Phone Calls to Twitter Followers with @call

jajahJAJAJH, the web based phone service launched today a new service over twitter – Jajah@call, that allows twitter users to call each other over phone.

This is a nice feature on top of twitter to call your followers to say Hello, but is it effective?. The service only allows 2 minute calls, that means if you call someone and say who you are it’s end of the call.

The service has some more limitations apart from time limit, both the called and receiver should be using Jajah and both are following each other on twitter. Both has to follow each other is necessary otherwise it will be abused and becomes an annoying feature.

To initial a call twitter users has to send a tweet with @call, for example @call @twittername, then both the phones of the users will ring and they can talk for 2 minutes.

Facebook got the voice chat feature with Vivox and now Twitter has a phone call feature, although this is not a true voice chat, and we may see similar services to popup on every social service out there. Will you be using this service, what do you think of it?.

Lol, I’m starting to wonder if there is anything Twitter won’t be able to do :P. But the 2 minute call limit is interesting and I’m trying to think of what that would be best used for…

I agree @call presents some challenges. Something we worked to address at Phweet by designing a Twitter based system around sending unique Talk Requests. We didn’t bet on a “free” model as it isn’t sustainable. Still you may find Phweet interesting (we have plans for it when Twitter becomes location aware). See my post http://www.henshall.com/stuart/2009/09/16/jajah-call-stuarthenshall-service-misses-the-phweet-spot-imho/ for a comparison with Jajah.
