Facebook for feature phones reaches 100 million users

While we are using Facebook on smartphones, there are a lot of people that are still on feature phones and to tap those users Facebook has created Facebook for Every Phone app in 2011. This app is specially designed for feature phones, the app now gained millions of users and according to Facebook, 100 million people are accessing Facebook each month using this app.

Facebook for Every Phone roots came from Snaptu app it acquired in 2011. As the developing world moved to smartphones most part, in developing countries there are still large number of feature phones in use. Facebook is trying various means to get these users online, it partnered with telecom carriers in developing countries to offer Facebook access for free or for a low fee.

Today, millions of people in developing markets like India, Indonesia and the Philippines are relying on this technology to connect with Facebook, without having to purchase a smartphone.

The app is a comprehensive Facebook experience and feels more like a smartphone app. It includes Facebook’s most popular features, such as News Feed, Messenger and Photos, and provides a complete experience for first-time users, including the ability to create a new account and find friends.

The app is optimized to user less data than a typical Java app and mobile sites, according to Facebook. Facebook for Every Phone is a native app and works on more than 3000 devices.
