Posterous Acquired by Twitter: Posterous Spaces will remain up for now

Posterous, the simple blogging service has been acquired by Twitter. Posterous started as a simple way to post content via email, web or mobile apps. Posterous competed initially with Tumblr but eventually lost the game to Tumblr and later shifted focus to Spaces.

Now the big question is what happens with those Spaces users created with Posterous. Both companies claim that Spaces will remain up for now but is not clear whether Twitter will shutdown them or not after some time.

On the posterous blog Company CEO writes that “Posterous Spaces will remain up and running without disruption. We’ll give users ample notice if we make any changes to the service.” And for those users who want to move their content from Posterous to other services they will post instructions how to do it in the coming weeks. So it all depends on Twitter now what to do with the Spaces once the dust settles. Posterous posted faq for users, check out the faq here.

Twitter blog also stated the same, users will be notified if Twitter decides to shutdown the service. Twitter blog talks about the talent that is coming with the Posterous acquisition rather than the product itself. That means Twitter is not really interested in the product, and in the near future it may shut down with out hesitation. Twitter might integrate some features of Posterous in to twitter.

If you are using Posterous Spaces what do you think of this develoment, and will you move to some other service like Tumblr.

I am searching for tools that will export spaces from Posterous to Tumblr or Wordress, let me know if any one of you know such a tool.

Via Twitter, Posterous

I tried Posterous when it first came out but ended up switching to Tumblr. I preferred the look, ease of use and even the community of Tumblr. I could still cross post to Twitter and Facebook if I wanted.
Now, it’s even easier because I use Friendica and can post to all the same places Posterous allowed me to, and it even formats images etc properly – unlike Posterous which often distorted layouts in certain WordPress.com themes. So now, from Friendica I can (if I choose) post to Tumblr, WordPress (self-hosted or .com) LiveJournal, Facebook, Twitter, Diaspora friends, Email etc. Really, Posterous had nothing special going for it amongst all the other options now.
