Microsoft releases on{X} Android app for automating tasks

Microsoft released an Android app that allows users to automate certain tasks using triggers. The app is named on{X}, pronounced as On-EX. It is quiet strange that Microsoft released the app for Android only, instead of their own Windows Phone platform. The team behind the app is based in Israel and works on enhancing Bing experiences.

on{X} app allows to set automatic actions triggered on your Android phone. For example based on weather condition it can suggest you to get an umbrella while moving out of the house. Or it can text your wife of girl friends that you just left office, the trigger here is the time and geo-location. The functionality of the app is awesome as it automates simple but many useful tasks.

Users can create tasks called “recipes” on on{X}.ms website. The good thing about the app is it can detect what you are doing and it can launch apps or do other tasks while you are walking, running or driving. The app requires your Facebook login to launch, if that is not an issue just login and find out what it has to offer to you.

The app is  developed by Israeli Information Platform and Experiences (IPE) team. Shira Weinberg, the team’s Program Manager, explained to TechCrunch “that the less strict security model of the Android platform is well suited for deploying early stage technology previews. This means that on{X} should be expected to be implemented on Windows 8 and Windows Phone, which require a more mature implementation of the technology.”
