The latest numbers from Android developer team shows that the latest Android version Ice Cream Sandwich is now on 10% of Android devices. Google released Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the next version of Android last week at Google I/O. According to the stats posted on Android developer dashboard Ice Cream Sandwich now accounts for 10% of the Android market share up from 7.1% last month.
The most popular Android version remains Gingerbread released 18-months back with 64% of Android devices running on it. This will unlikely lose share quickly as lower end smartphones are still released using this version of Android and unlikely to be upgraded to the ICS or newer version in the near future. The next popular Android version being the Android Froyo with 17.3% of Android are still running this version.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is coming with the Nexus 7 tablet announced at the Google I/O along with Nexus S and Xoom in mid-july. But the developer preview has been released last week at Google I/O. Given the history of Google Android updates Jelly Bean updates can only be seen in late 2012 or early 2013. By that time ICS share might increase significantly. The new version of Android, Jelly Bean implements new technology Google’s Project Butter that include performance and visual enhancements, and it also includes a new Google Voice Search implementation and Google now.
