Asus to enter U.S Smartphone market in 2014

Asus is looking to enter US smartphone market in 2014. Though Asus has presence in US with its popular Nexus 7 tablet in association with Google and its Transformer series of devices, it is yet to establish itself in the US as a smartphone maker. Asus is known for its hybrid devices like Padfone Infinity and Fonepad.

According to Jonney Shih, Asus Chairman, Asus is looking to enter US smartphone market in 2014, he said Asus is hard at work but a 2013 release of a smartphone is not in the cards and 2014 could be a realistic date. Speaking to AllThingsD he said that his company is taking time for building relationships with carriers and retailers which is essential for success in the US market.

Asus Fonepad release some time ago is a 7-inch tablet with calling capability, Shih said that he has been pleasantly surprised to see people using the device as a phone. Rumor is that Asus may be working on a new PadFone Infinity successor with Quacomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC. Asus recently unveiled Transformer Trio which runs on Android and Windows.
