BBM Android will support Gingerbread devices from next month

BlackBerry will bring BBM Android to more Android devices as soon as next month. BBM Android released last year was only available for Android devices running Android 4.0 and up and next month BlackBerry will release the app that supports devices running Android 2.3.3 and up. BlackBerry has gained millions of users for its BBM service once it released BBM Android and iPhone apps.

Well you might think that Gingerbread is outdated mobile OS and why bother now, it seems that Gingerbread still commands a healthy 21 percent of Android market share. BBM after getting millions of users from the earlier release doesn’t want to miss those users and will released the app next month, it is currently under beta testing according to BlackBerry.

It is not clear though whether it will be a separate app or the same app supports these older devices, we are thinking may be it is a different app. It is also not clear whether this app will support all the current features and the upcoming ones like the video calls. Supporting these upcoming features in older devices might be a difficult task for BlackBerry, we will know when BlackBerry announces the same next month that is February.
