Google Play Newsstand is available for Android, replaces Play Magazines and Google Currents

Google has released Google Play Newsstand today that will replace the already available Play Magazines and Google Currents apps. It will play as a hub to the newspapers and magazines and will also be useful to read blogs and other content. The Play Newsstand app will replace the Magazines app and will ask users to replace it with Newsstand, in countries where Magazines is not available it will replace Currents app.

Google explains that the new app for your Android smartphones and tablets will bring all your favorite news sources under one roof. It will present news stories that are of your taste, Google knows a lot about you so no wonder you will see favorites there. You can subscribe to news sites, magazines, newspapers, blogs and the articles are specially formatted for your smartphone tablet. You can view images, video and everything inline within the app. If you can’t read that long review, you can save it to read later.

The app will compete with the popular Flipboard app. The Newsstand app also integrates with the News Paper pay walls giving the news papers a venue to sell subscriptions. Earlier app Currents didn’t support the subscriptions.

If you are a Currents user your subscriptions will be migrated to the Newsstand app. If you are not then you can download the app directly from the Google Play Store.
