Google Presentation App Goes Live

Google finally launched the much awaited presentation tool in Google’s online office suite. This tool is named Presently and has the basic functionality of powerpoint. The web interface is simple and and usable like other Google Apps, i like Google Apps because of their simplicity and ease of use.

Presently may not be a competitor for Powerpoint at this point of time but it has all the basic functions needed to create presentations. Just click on new presentation to get started with your first presentation in Google Presently, you can add text and format it to suite your needs, import images from your desktop and add to the slides. You can also import powerpoint presentations to this tool. Currently advanced image manipulation tools like cropping and changing image properties is not available but you can resize the images.

Currently 15 themes are available for you to select. You can import existing powerpoint files to presently, but you can’t export the presentations as .ppt files. You can export them as .Zip files, which will give you .html slideshow of the presentation.

If you share the presentation with others, you can connect with all of them on Google talk and chat about the presentation you are watching.

Another announcement is that Google renamed Google Docs & Spreadsheets to Google Docs.

I think it has a long way to go.. There are not enough features yet… Just hoping that Google will add more soon.

For example, slideshow transition effects, drawing tools are missing.

Yes only basic functionality is available and some of the advanced features are missing. We may expect more features soon 🙂
