Google is reportedly partnering with Audi for on-board Android system

Google is reportedly working to bring Android based system to your car dashboard. According to WSJ Google and Audi will announce at CES 2014 that they are partnering to bring in-car entertainment and information system based on Android. The report also claims that they are collaborating with other automotive and tech companies including Nvidia for supplying chips for the dashboard system.

The in-car dashboard system based on Android will allow drivers to access navigation, music, Android apps and other relevant information on the dashboard like we do with smartphones. Google’s efforts come as Apple has introduced “iOS in the car”, Apple announced it at the WWDC keynote. Apple’s iOS in the car will give drivers direct access to the iOS using in-car control systems.

Google’s Android system differs from Apple’s in that Android will be integrated to the car dashboard systems, and you don’t need an Android device, in the case of Apple you need an iOS device. So far Apple has the support of  BMW, Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz, GM and Honda Motors. Google has partnered with Audi and might announce other partnerships at a later time.
