LG launches smartphone controllable Smart Bulb

LG Electronics has launched a smart bulb today, the LG smart bulb can be controlled using a smartphone. Smart Bulbs are not new, but this is first from LG. The smart bulb announced today can be controlled using an Android or iOS device through a companion with functions like on/ off, brightness control and other features.

According to LG the smart bulb uses the LED technology and is more power efficient than the similar incandescent bulbs, LG claims that these smart bulbs are 80% energy efficient than regular incandescent bulbs. These bulbs will easily last for 10 years if used for five hours a day according to LG, they are of 10 Watts capacity. The smart bulbs come with features like “security mode”, where the bulb can auto switch on at a specified time to pretend that you are home, even when you are not. In the “Play mode” smart bulbs can blink to the music playing over TV, it becomes a perfect accessory for the parties. The Play mode is only available for Android devices as of now.

LG smart lighting as they call i will connect with the smartphones using Bluetooth technology. It fits in the same socket as a normal bulb so you don’t have to worry if you really want to have these smart bulbs. What do you think about these bulbs, do you plan to get one as we are moving towards a smart home future. The availability date for the smart bulbs from LG is not clear as of now. They are priced at 35,000 won, that is around $32.
