Your Smartphone Battery is Draining Quickly, Free Apps are to Blame

Your Smartphone battery is draining quickly and doesn’t last the whole day, a new research suggests that Free apps are to blame for this battery drain. According to the study around 75 percent of the energy is used by the free apps to serve ads to you or to track your location and upload user data.

Researchers at Purdue University developed a software to analyze apps energy usage. They found that popular apps on Android spent only 10 to 30 percent of the energy for apps core functions and rest is wasted over ads etc.

The hugely popular game Angry Birds uses only 20 percent of the power for the game play and 45 percent of the power is used in locating and uploading the user GPS data and downloading the location specific adverts over 3G connection. The 3G connection stays open for around 10 seconds, after the ads are served making more power drain.

One thing you could do to conserve battery power is to pay up for these apps. But if you use a lot of apps the bills might make a hole in your pocket.
