WhatsApp comes to Nokia Asha 501 with a Software update

Nokia has finally delivered WhatsApp for Nokia Asha 501 phone through a software update. Nokia promised WhatsApp for Asha smartphones at Nokia World last month. The WhatsApp messaging app can be downloaded on Asha 501 after updating the phone with new software. The update is available as OTA and users will get notification on their phones for the same.

The update brings the Nokia Asha 501 software in par with the recently announced Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503 phones. New Asha 501 phones will now carry the update onboard.

If you haven’t receive update notification go to Settings –> Phone Update and check. Once updated you will see a WhatsApp launcher on your home screen through that you can download WhatsApp.

The update includes several improvements and new features. It is available for both Asha 501 single SIM and Dual SIM variants.

New Features for Nokia Asha 501

  • WhatsApp messaging through 2G or Wi-Fi connection.
  • WhatsApp messages on Fastlane
  • Swiping up on lock screen will bring the Camera. Touch anywhere on screen to capture an image.
  • Sharing photos got easier, you can specify a default social network like Facebook for single tap sharing.
  • Fastlane improved with lots of integration with social networks, messages now show icons beside messages.
  • Lock Screen notifications can include content or just icons for privacy.
  • Configure which apps show notifications show on Fastlane, more personalization options.
  • Support for Voice over IP for voice calls on data connection. Nimbuzz support is added, more coming soon.
