Firefox Metro 8 preview build for Windows 8 is now available

Mozilla has released a preview build of the Firefox Metro browser as we are nearing the launch date for Windows 8. Mozilla announced in March that they are starting the development of Firefox for Windows 8 and posted a prototype in April.

Firefox for Windows is called Firefox Metro Preview for the moment, although Microsoft asked developers not to use the word Metro. As the name suggests this release is just a preview of the browser and they are far from a working beta version of the browser, beta version might be expected after the release of the Windows 8 on October 26th.

The preview includes Metro style start page, support for Firefox Sync, touch gestures on compatible devices and integrated with Windows 8 Charms bar.

If you are running Windows 8 RTM build you can download the browser and test it yourself or else wait for the beta version. There is a nightly build of Firefox Metro preview, nightly builds means it is untested and not polished, so be aware things may not work as you expected. But once you install this build will auto update. Firefox Metro is not limited to the Metro interface but it will also work on the desktop, the desktop browser will take care of the auto updates.

Only default browser is allowed in Metro interface, so don’t forget to set Firfox as your default browser to test this preview build.
