Google Maps for iOS incoming, includes turn by turn navigation

Google Maps for iOS is the most speculated app since Apple booted the Google Maps app from the iOS with the release of iOS6.0. Apple introduced it’s own maps applications in the latest iOS, and that turns out to be disaster, prompting Apple’s Tim Cook to apologize publicly.

Since then rumors are circulating that Google is developing a native iOS Maps app, the latest report comes from WSJ, which reports that Google Maps app is in the final stages of development. Google is adding finishing touches to the app before it is submitted to the appstore for approval.

Google reportedly sent the Maps app to people outside the company for the testing purpose, once this is done we might see the Maps app in the appstore.

The new app is reported to include turn-by-turn navigation, the previous Google Maps app lacked this feature. Apple’s own maps application has this feature. This is one feature many iOS users are expecting in the Maps application from Google.

When WSJ contacted Google for comment on the report Google Spokesperson gave a vague statement confirming the iOS app. “We believe Google Maps are the most comprehensive, accurate and easy-to-use maps in the world. Our goal is to make Google Maps available to everyone who wants to use it, regardless of device, browser, or operating system.”
