Compare: Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8

Micromax has launched Canvas Doodle 2 A 240 officially in India, it is a phone with huge display at 5.7-inch. A 5-inch phone itself is bigger if you ask me, but anything above 5-inch is difficult to operate with one hand. But there is a market for these kind of phones with more than 5-inch display. Samsung also has a phone in the form of Galaxy Mega 5.8, which has 5.8-inch display. Canvas Doodle 2 is competing with the Mega 5.8 so let us compare these two phones to see which one is a good choice.

Display: Canvas Doodle 2 has a 5.7-inch display and Galaxy Mega 5.8 has a 5.8-inch display, the difference is minimal and you don’t even notice. Micromax one supports HD (1280 x 720 p) resolution while the Mega is just qHD (540 x 960 p). The pixel density in Doodle 2 is 258ppi, and the Mega 5.8 is just 190ppi which is quite noticeable difference. Micromax used IPS display and Samsung used TFT LCD, again here Canvas Doodle 2 is better in terms of paper spec.

Camera: Samsung Mega 5.8 comes with an 8 megapixel camera at the rear and a 1.9 megapixel at the front. It comes with LED flash at the rear and supports HD video recording and Full HD viewing.

Canvas Doodle 2 has a 12 megapixel camera at the rear and a 5 megapixel camera at the front and it comes with dual LED flash.

On paper the Micromax A240 is better, but megapixels is not everything we should look at real world performance of the camera. Samsung camera are usually better optimized than the indigenous manufacturers offerings.

Performance: Galaxy Mega is powered by a 1.4GHz dual core Broadcom processor based on A9 architecture and the Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 is powered by the 21.2GHz Quad core MediaTek 6589 chip based on A7. The A7 chip is power efficient and the A9 should give performance. Mega comes with 1.5GB of RAM and Doodle 2 comes with 1GB of RAM.

In terms of storage Mega 5.8 has 8 GB of internal storage with microSD card slot for expanding the memory upto 64GB. Canvas Doodle 2 comes with 16GB of internal storage but there is no external micro SD card support.

Battery: Both Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Canvas Doodle 2 pack a 2600mAh battery under the hood. Although the battery is of higher capacity the giant screens on both these devices should squeeze the batteries more. Overall there may not be noticeable differences though.

Conclusion: Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 display is good compared to Galaxy Mega 5.8 and in the camera department also it shines but we don’t know the real performance. Price wise Canvas Doodle 2 is selling for Rs. 19,000 and the Galaxy Mega is selling for Rs. 22900 currently. If you don’t care about the brand go for Micromax Canvas Doodle 2.
