Sony halted sales of Xperia S tablet due to manufacturing fault

Sony has halted the sales of its latest Xperia Tablet S due to a manufacturing defect that makes the tablet prone to water damage. Sony launched the tablet last month in several markets in Europe, US and Japan. The irony is that Sony marketed the tablet as splash-proof, but now it halted the sales because water can damage the tablet.

There is a panel gap between the display screen and the aluminum casing that occurred due to a manufacturing fault in it’s Chinese plant where it manufactures the tablet.

Sony issued a press release saying that the sales of the tablet have been suspended. For those of you who have already purchased the defective tablets will be repaired free of cost. Sony has already sold 100,000 units of this tablet so far. The recall process is not yet started but will start in late October and they will inspect and repair free of cost to customers. Sony advises existing Tablet S users to keep it out of reach of the water. Kudos to Sony for accepting the fault and immediately acting to fix the issue. Sales will resume soon but there is no date given for the same.
