New Google Chrome beta released with security fixes and improvements

A new beta version of Google Chrome 0.3.154.9 is released, it is not yet pushed to users but it will updated in the next few days. However if you want to update now all you have to do is open up settings menu (small ‘tool icon’ on the right corner of the browser) and click “About Google Chrome”, it will get updated to the latest version immediately.

Google Chrome beta

This Google Chrome beta release fixes an issue with address spoofing in pop-ups and many other issues reported since the last release.

Issues Fixed

  • Scrolling with laptop touchpads now works.
  • Improved performance and reliability for plugins (like Flash, Silverlight, QuickTime, and Windows Media). We fixed issues with video not loading, stopping after a second, and slowing down or freezing Google Chrome (100% CPU usage).
  • Fixed the ‘chrome has crashed’ message when you close a tab that was showing PDF using Adobe Reader 9.
  • We no longer store data from secure sites (they use https: and show a lock in the address bar) in your history. You can still search your history for the site’s address, but not the contents on the page.
  • Improved performance and reliability for people who use web proxies (thanks to griffinz for the fixes).

Apart from these fixes there are some changes like, The new tab, new windows, new incognito windows options moved to chrome “wrench” menu. The spell checker works on text input fields and underlines misspelled words. Now you can add custom words to the dictionary. The download behavior for files like executables and bat files changed, now these will be downloaded to unconfirmed downloads and they will be removed once you exit google chrome unless you confirm the download.

  1. The Windows Fix says

Still am not sold on Chrome, but it’s quick approached Firefox, faster then I thought. Once they start rolling out their so called extensions, they should give Mozilla a serious challenge.

  2. movie fan says

I hesitate to use even upgraded versions of Chrome, since my last experience using it (first version) left my computer compromised; have they fixed the security issues beyond all doubt?
