Google acquires GreenBorder

Google’s acquisition spree continues with the latest acquisition of GreenBorder, a company focussed on security software. GreenBorder Pro is designed to protect computers from malware execution through browsers. The software separates browsing session from the computer virtually, so that malware or trojans can not infect the host system and when you close the session all this junk is deleted. GreenBorder Pro costs $29.95, but now their website says they are not accepting new customers.

This software works with Both IE and Firefox, it makes a GreenBorder around each application you use, so that you know you are on safe browsing. A trail version of the software is available from Download.com

GreenBorder creates a protective barrier that keeps all interactions with the Web away from your PC. This set & forget protection is always current and doesn’t require any updates. It prevents malicious code from silently installing or seeing your files and PC resources–even new sophisticated attacks that are undetectable.

This acquisition provide Google an anti-virus platform to bundle with Google Desktop.

I like the acquisition by Google, but I’m still wondering why they did it. Do they still have an OS in the back of their mind?
