Movable Type 4 Beta Released

Movable type 4.0 beta released today, this is the major update after Mt3.0 released in 2004. Movable Type is a popular blogging platform from Six Apart powering blogs like Biong Biong.

The most interesting part of the announcement is that Movable Type is going Open Source way. The first GPL licensed Movable Type Open Source or MTOS will be released in third quarter of 2007.

movable typeMT4 comes with lot of improvements, some of the key features include easy to use install wizards, default templates and import from other blog platforms. MT4 now offers a ‘WYSIWYG’ editor to support to manage text, photos and audio.

Movable Type 4 offers a powerful summary of your blogging activity in a single dashboard, you can see all your blog activity from this dashboard. Now it offers a built-in registration system to use for authentication of users and commenters.

MT4 offers OpenID authentication for allowing users to maintain a single sign on system for multiple sites.

    Movable Type was the name in blogging software a little while back but now I think wordpress is the one. Maybe I am wrong.

    agreed, wordpress is no 1 now a days. but movable type has its share.

    Goldcoaster, I think you’re right. When I picked the platform I’m using for my blog, I went with MT, but if I picked one to use today, it would be WP. However, the important thing is to keep content in a database so it’s portable as platforms come and go or our innovate each other.
