Cheaper version of Moto X is coming to developing markets

Motorola launched the Moto X officially, it will carry a price tag of $199 with two year contract is US. The full price of the device with out contract is not yet clear, but looking at the current price that might be a bit higher. If you are turned off by the high price tag of the Moto X device, don’t worry there is a cheaper version of the Moto X is coming soon.

Moto X launched officially

According to Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside Moto X is one of the many devices coming out of Motorola under Moto X brand. A new cheaper version of the Moto X is definitely on the list of Motorola aimed at developing countries and also for prepaid customers in US. The device will be designed and priced to appeal to international customer who buy handsets separately with out any contracts and pay the full price, in these markets carriers won’t subsidize handsets.

“The experience of devices you can get for less than $200 is subpar right now,” Woodside said. “We want everyone to have access to affordable smartphones.”

This is the same approach other companies are adopting to give consumers choice in the form of trimmed down devices. Samsung did the same thing with Galaxy S4, it released S4 Mini as a follow up to S4 for price sensitive markets. Similarly HTC has released HTC One Mini followed by the flagship HTC One. Apple is also expected to release low cost iPhones some time later for the developing markets and price sensitive consumers.
