Windows 8 is launching in October for consumers and Windows 8 RTM is on track for planned August launch. Microsoft’s CFO Tami Reller confirmed on stage at Microsoft’s annual Worldwide Partner Conference.
Microsoft released Windows 8 Release Preview in June, after Developer Preview last year and release of Consumer Preview in February. Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 8 in October, but this is not yet confirmed by Microsoft earlier, today came the confirmation. That means devices running with Windows 8 will be available at the launch time along with the Microsoft Surface tablets running Windows 8 RT version announced recently.
The general availability of Windows 8 is expected by the end of October. Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT PCs and upgrades will be available starting October. Windows 8 will be available in 109 languages across 231 markets worldwide according to Microsoft.
Tami Reller confirmed that Windows 8 RTM builds will be available from first week of August. RTM or “Release to Manufacturing” means that Microsoft’s hardware will get access to the Windows 8 to load on to their devices. Along with the RTM launch Windows 8 Store will also becomes commerce platform, allowing developers to charge for their application in the Windows 8 store. Currently applications are free to try for users.
