Amazon to offer a free Smartphone, report says

Amazon is mulling to offer a free smartphone to users according to a report on jessicalessin.com. Amazon Kindle phone is rumored from long and according to previous reports it is working on two phones with one being a 3D smartphone, but till now there is no concrete information on these plans.

The report says that Amazon is mulling to offer a free smartphone, but the sources are skeptical about this plan. Amazon might want users to take Amazon Prime Wireless package, but according to the report that may not be an obligation. Free or low cost phones to customers is not new, in US and Europe carriers offer low end phones for free on contracts and higher end phones as subsidized over a year or two year contract.

Amazon itself offered its Kindle Tablets for low cost in hope of making money from Apps, eBooks and advertisements. Amazon might take the same road for its smartphone. Gaining market share in today’s smartphone market is not easy and Amazon wants to get ahead with a free phone strategy to instantly boost sales. Amazon uses a customized version of Android with out any Google Apps and Google Play Store and it has its own appsotre and apps.
