Google Drive now supports file previews

Google has added a new “Preview Files” feature to Google Drive web app that allows users to peek into files before opening them for editing. With the new feature users will be able to preview 30 file types in Google Drive and navigate between files using left and right arrows with in the window.

Usually you will know what is there in the file when you see the file name, but this is not always true, for example Photos taken with a digital camera. If you are in a situation you want to see which file you want to open you can use this preview feature to quickly glance the file contents. It is not limited to images, any file type document or a pdf can be previewed. Within the preview pane you can watch videos or scroll through multi-page documents.

While previewing you can select and copy text from documents and open for editing or share, print and download with ease. The feature is not yet rolled out to everyone, in Google fashion it will roll out in the coming weeks.
