Mixcloud Takes User Generated Music To The Next Level

mixcloud

Mixcloud is our latest finding on the internet’s music block. If Youtube seems synonymous to video for you, Mixcloud aims to be synonymous with radio, Dj mixes and podcasts.

Mixcloud provides a platform for content creators to promote and share everything audio, let it be podcasts, radio shows, mixed tracks or compilations. Everything can be organized into genres and play control is in the hands of the user.

Take it like a social network for radio, but where people control what they play. Users can follow the music creators, keep a track on their uploads and comment on tracks. Each user also has an activity stream like any other social network, so you’ll know what that user is upto all the time! You can yourself upload your music mixes and share with the members there. At present, when Mixcloud is in closed beta, you can only upload 10 cloudcasts, as Mixcloud calls each music mix. The MP3 file should be under 100MB and has to be a radio show, dj mix or podcast. Individual tracks are not accepted as Mixcloud is not about music tracks, but music mixes and user generated content. In the future, you’ll also be able to upload files by URL.

playerEach music show comes with a description and a tracklist, which lists the data in the mix. Like many music sites, every track opens in a small new window with a flash player from where you can control the playback. You can easily browse through the shows by genre, popularity and there’s another page for newly submitted shows.

The site itself is very good at design and pleasing with the colors. I can see Mixcloud waving off the frustration of content sharers – sick of file hosting at different sites. Radio on demand, any time is what Mixcloud is all about and right now, it’s in private beta i.e. you’ll need an invite to get in.

It seems to be going the right path, and who knows, it may be the ‘next big thing’ in music? And mind it, the music there is real good! We’ll let you know if we get some invites to share with our readers, in the meantime, you can request one here »

Update: We now have invites, they’re limited so hurry!
