Twitter announced today that it can now block tweets on a country-by-country basis, that means Twitter can now block content which violates local laws without blocking the content for the entire world. Twitter already censors some content based on DMCA takedown requests, but till now this censorship is global.

SkyDrive gets app-centric sharing for Office, improved file management and HTML5 uploads

Microsoft’s SkyDrive got some improvements and updates, a blog post on Inside Windows Live outlines. SkyDrive is a personal cloud storage and offers 25GB of free storage for users to store and share documents, files and photos. The improvements include sharing Office files with one click, powerful tools to manage and organize files quickly. Collaboration tools to connect with friends from other email services as well as from Facebook and LinkedIn. Apart from this now files can be uploaded to SkyDrive using HTML5 capabilities.

Idea Cellular launches cheap 3G smartphones

Idea Cellular launched a range of 3G smartphones to attract its 2G subscribers to its 3G services. Idea launched these smartphones in association with Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE. According to Idea Cellular executive this excercise is to create the ecosystem for its 3G penetration and they have no interest in entering the handset business.

YouTube adds Disney Movies to Rentals

YouTube announced a deal with Disney that will add hundreds of Disney titles including classics, Disney Pixar Movies and Dream Works Studios Movies to its rental program in US. The announcement also highlights that in the coming weeks more Disney Classics and new releases will be added to the rental program. YouTube already had a deal with other Hollywood studios Universal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros.

Google to shut Knol, Wave, Gears, Friend connect

Google announced Knol, back in 2007 with the aim to create an authoritative knowledge base written by experts. The effort didn’t take off really except the initial hype. Everyone including Google seems forgotten about Knol till now, Google announced now that it is retiring the service with effect from April 30 2012, everything from the site will be removed but not from the servers. Users have the opportunity to download the articles till October 1st 2012 or can migrate their content to Annotum.org, which is powered by WordPress built in collaboration with Solvitor LLC and Crowd Favorite. Knol users can migrate their content to Annotum using Export option in Knol account, and users can set redirects from Knol to Annotum.

Apple now allows game subscriptions on the App Store (updated)

Apple is now letting game companies to offer monthly subscriptions like newspaper or magazine subscriptions according to Bloomberg report. Currently game developers could only sell in-app purchases and required users to download the game. With the new subscriptions users can buy a package and play all the games offered under the package without downloading.
