Voice Chat Coming to Facebook

vivoxBored of chatting on Facebook using the default chat and want to spend more time in chatting with your buddies by voice?, Vivox is bringing voice chat to Facebook. Vivox provides integrated voice for online games and visual worlds like Second Life, it is bringing the technology to Facebook.

Facebook officially haven’t added voice chat support yet, but Vivox is adding the support with a plugin. Vivox app is currently in beta allows Facebook users to chat with their Facebook friends. Vivox is also working with developers to integrate custom voice capabilities into their applications.

Initially only Facebook users can participate in chat, those who choose to install the browser plugin, but later Vivox plans to dial-in numbers that will allow even non Facebook users to participate in the conversation.

Vivox is currently in private beta and will launch to public in Q4 2009.

I don’t use FB chat all that much (for voice or video chat I usually just Skype) so I wonder how this would compare in quality. Sounds potentially really cool though.
