Geode: Your browser knows where you are

Mozilla labs released an addon for Firefox 3 that helps websites detect user current location. The addon emulates the functionality of future Firefox support for W3C Gelocation Specification.

Mozilla says it is helpful if you are in a new city, you canfireup Firefox and see where you are and nearby eat outs. It automatically detects your location and suggests the nearby locations.

Geode

Geolocation information will be updated from one or more user selected providers or methods like GPS-base, WiFi-based, manual entry etc. Currently Mozilla Geode is using technology from Loki, which uses WiFi to determine your location. The future versions of Firefox and the mobile browser Fennec.

“With Geode when a web site requests your location a notification bar will ask how much information you want to give that site: your exact location, your neighborhood, your city, or nothing at all”, says Mozilla.
