GearsGears formerly known as Google Gears now supports Firefox 3. If you are wondering what is Gears, it is a browser plugin to enable offline access for web applications and more.

Some of the programs that make use of Gears are Google Docs, Google Reader, Zoho. The latest version (0.3) of Gears has an interesting feature, the ability to create desktop shortcuts.

Google Docs GearsDesktop shortcuts will allow you to create a shortcuts on your desktop for websites that support this feature. To test it go to Google Docs and enable Gears for it, then it will popup a message to create shortcut for Desktop, Start menu, and quick launch bar. After creating the shortcut you can just click the shortcut to directly open the site in your browser. Via Webware
