How to upgrade PHP version from WHM

I have upgraded my PHP version on my dedicated server recently from php 4.4.4 to php 5.1.4, i will explain how i did that here, hope it might be useful to someone else. Some of the scripts we use may be upgraded to PHP 5 version, in that case it is always better to upgrade your server php version. The best way to do is from your WHM (Web Host Manager) installed on your server, i dont know how to do it from shell, there may be a way but i am scared that i may broke the server.

In most of the Linux servers php is installed as apache module, so we have to build apache by selecting the version of PHP you want to install.

First Identify the PHP version installed on your server, you can do this by creating a phpinfo file on your site, here its a good idea to note modules installed with php from the result of the phpinfo file. This is useful if something goes wrong after upgrading.

Google Image Labeler

Google Image Labeler is a new feature of Google Image Search for improving Image search in Google. It relies on users to label the images randomly to improve the quality of their image search.

Any one can contribute to this feature, all you have to do is label the images shown by Google with relevant phrases.

How it works:

When you start using this feature you will be paired with an online user and then Google will show you same images to both of you over a two minute period. You and your paired user have to provide as many labels as possible to the set of images you see. When your and your partners labels match you will earn points. What is OpenID:

OpenID is an open, decentralized, free framework for user-centric digital identity.

OpenID starts with the concept that anyone can identify themselves on the Internet the same way websites do-with a URI (also called a URL or web address). Since URIs are at the very core of Web architecture, they provide a solid foundation for user-centric identity.

Yahoo Photos Shutting Down

Yahoo Photos to shutdown soon in favor of Flickr, the social photo sharing website TechCrunch reported. Yahoo acquired Flickr in March 2005, flickr has become popular with its photo sharing features with other members of the site. Flickr is planning to add video sharing capabilities in the near future, Butterfield Co Founder of Flickr confirmed.

Yahoo Photos shutdown process continue a few months and in this time users have given a choice to upload their photos to flickr in one click or they can move these photos to other photo sharing sites like Photobucket, Snapfish od Shutterfly.

Yahoo Photos reportedly has large number of Photos than any other photos sharing site with 2 billion photos, flickr has 500 million. But the popularity of Flickr might have made Yahoo to take this decision. There is no piont in continuing Yahoo Photos and Flickr under the company as both of the sites provide the same services for the users.

….There has long been an issue at Yahoo where newer services have competed with older services, and Yahoo has finally taken some strong action to getting their house in order with a consistent set of product offerings. Garlinghouse has been one of the stronger proponents of this strategy.

…Flickr is also growing much faster than Yahoo photos and coincidentally has just exceeded Yahoo! Photos in traffic, according to Comscore.
