Twhirl Supports Identi.ca

Twhirl is one of the best twitter cleints out there, not only twitter it also supports Friendfee and cross-post to Pownce and Jaiku. The new version of the Twhirl added support for Identi.ca, the new open source microblogging platform that launched few weeks ago. Identi.ca doesn’t have all the features of twitter but it is an open source and distributed platform.

You can add Identi.ca to twhirl by selecting from the drop down services tab and entering Identi.ca account information. This way you will receive updates ata specified time interval (1 to 10 minutes). If you want real time updates there is a work around using XMPP protocol. To get it work you need to add your Gmail account (or other Jabber or XMPP supported IM client) in identi.ca and set to receive notifications via IM. “After setting up your IM address in identi.ca, open the configuration for your identi.ca account in twhirl. Go to the “Network” tab, and enter your full IM address (like “exampleUser@gmail.com”) in the JID field, your IM password in the password field, and the Jabber server to use for your account in the server field. If you are using a GTalk address, put in “talk.google.com””

Click “Save”. The little light bulb at the bottom right of your identi.ca window will light up if twhirl connected to your IM account.
